Veronica To Compete In Second Olympic Games

The world's best artistic gymnasts are currently competing at the 2007 World Championships and 2008 Olympic Qualifications in Stuttgart, Germany. The preliminary round of competition was held during on the weekend, where Veronica finished 46th all-around with 55.600 points, securing an Olympic berth for Beijing China 2008. Veronica's best performances came on balance beam (14.376) and vault (14.100). She also earned impressive scores on floor exercise (13.675) and uneven bars (13.450). Congratulations Virre!

Veronica became the most successful gymnast at the Buenos Aires World Cup last weekend after winning two events - vault (14.250) and balance beam (14.800) - and placing third on floor exercise (13.800).
Silver on Vault at the Maribor World Cup

Veronica began her 2007 competition season at the Mariborn World Cup held in Slovenia. After the preliminary round Veronica qualified to compete in vault (13.875) and beam (14.250) finals. She was the second top qualifier on vault and the fifth best on beam.
In the finals Veronica improved her qualification score on vault (13.900) to tie the silver medal with Erika Morel (FRA). The event was won by World Champion Cheng Fei (CHN). On beam she finished seventh (13.200), while the gold medal was won by Cheng Fei (CHN) with Li Ya (CHN) and Cloe Briandt (FRA) taking the minor medals.
Triple Gold in Norway

This weekend Veronica and her teammates traveled to Sandnes, Norway to compete in the 2006 Northern European Championships. Veronica combined with her teammates Josefine Bache, Malin Hvetlander, Emma Lindevall and Stephanie Pizzignacco to take the team silver medal (153.400) just behind Finland (153.700), while Norway (152.300) finished third. Individually Veronica also had a great meet earing the gold medal in the all-around (53.600), placing first on beam (13.600) and floor (14.050) and finishing third on bars (12.650).
News From the Ghent World Cup

This past weekend Veronica traveled to Belgia to compete in the 3rd Ghent World Cup event. After the preliminary round Veronica qualified to compete in vault finals by posting her career high score of 13.925 (14.050+13.800) to place sixth! She also had solid routines on balance beam (14.200) to finish ninth and on floor exercise (13.800) to finish tenth.
In the finals round, Veronica placed sixth on vault again by setting another personal best score of 13.950 (14.000+13.900). The event was won by Oksana Chusovitina (UZB), Veronica's good friend Alicia Sacramone (USA) taking silver and Joanna Skowronska (POL) the bronze.
2006 Swedish National Champion

Competition at the Swedish Championships concluded today with the all-around "winners final". Despite having to count falls on uneven bars (12.300) and balance beam (13.300), Veronica performed strongly on vault (13.950) and floor exercise (14.100) to win the Senior All-Around gold medal for the fourth time! Veronica's junior aged teammate Maria Edner took the silver and Emma Lindevall from Västerås finished third.
Triple Gold in Uppsala

The top male and female gymnasts in Sweden converged on Uppsala over the past weekend to take part in the 2006 Swedish National Championships. The gymnasts compete in two days with todays preliminary deciding the individual event medalists as well as the top three atheles qualifying for tomorrow's all-around "winners final". Despite falling on balance beam (13.700) and uneven bars (12.700), solid performances on vault (13.700) and floor exercise (14.200) helped Veronica qualify first into tomorrow's final. Maria Edner and Emma Lindevall will join Veronica in the "winners final" after finishing second and third respectively. Veronica also won three individual event titles (vault, balance beam and floor exercise) and finished second on uneven bars.

Veronica traveled with the Swedish team (Josefina Backe, Emma Lindevall and Veronica Wagner) to Volos, Greece this week for the Senior European Championships. Strong team performance at the preliminary round, helped the team to place highest among the Nordic countries with a score of 152.050 and 16th place.
Individually Veronica had a fantastic meet, making history by successfully competing her double piked front on floor! After a strong finish on floor exercise (13.950) and vault (13.900), she also managed to post three personal best scores, on uneven bars (12.850), balance beam (14.250) and all-around (54.950). Even the official competition format didn't include an all-around competition during this year, Veronica's overall score would have been high enough to place her 13th among the best European gymnasts and the highest among the Nordic gymnasts!

Success At the French International

Veronica had a fantastic competition in Lyon at the French International, earning a place in two event finals, balance beam (14.150) and floor exercise (13.700). She was the fifth top qualifier on beam and the eight best on floor. In the finals, Veronica set up her new personal records at the World Cup event in finishing sixth on balance beam (13.050) and fifth on floor exercise (13.850).

For the past week world's best gymnasts have been gathered together in Melbourne, Australia to contest the 2005 World Championships. After difficult one and a half years in which Veronica struggled with injuries, she has returned to major all-around competition with a bang! Following her performance at the WAG Qualification round, Veronica placed 30th in the all-around competition to total 33.536 points - the best finish for Sweden in gymnastics since 1962, when Eva Rydell took 25th. Veronica scored 8.812 on vault, 8.312 on uneven bars, 8.350 on balance beam and 8.062 on floor exercise. The top 24 finishers from Wednesday's preliminary competition advance to the women's all-around final on Friday and the top eight finishers from each apparatus advance to the individual event finals on Saturday and Sunday.

5th Place in the Uneven Bars Final

The individual event finals at the Northern European Championships were held on Sunday in Lisburn. Veronica had qualified third into the final but unfortunately had some problems with her routine to finish in fifth place with a 8.250. Congratulations on being a finalist Veronica! Rhian Pugh (WAL) took the gold medal ahead of teammate Lynette Lisle (WAL) with Sif Palsdottir (ISL) and Carol Galashan (SCO) tying the bronze.

Veronica, who is just coming off an injury, traveled with the Swedish team to Lisburn, Northern Ireland this weekend for the Northern European Championships. The Swedish team, represented by Rebecca Jansson, Nathalie Kovac, Linn Nilsson, Emma Sunebäck and Veronica, finished fifth in the team event with a score of 92.800. Veronica, who was featured only on uneven bars (8.425), also qualified to contest the uneven bars final on Sunday. The team event was won by Wales (102.650), Nortern Ireland (97.600) and Scotland (97.100) finished second and third respectively.
